Its been nine months since my last post.

Its been nine months since my last post. I have nothing to confess. My first year of Graduate School is complete, and I’ve learned quite a bit. Most of what I’ve learned, is that I have a lot more to pursue academically. I’ve also learned I love research.

Hopefully I can start doing more posts. You might have noticed I removed a few, which you can probably find on Google cache if you dig deep enough. Going back and reading them after this long I can clearly see where I was emotionally when I was posting regularily, which if you read my bio, you’ll know can be up or down, or anywhere in-between, as is the case often with depression, run-on sentence! So, I have hidden those posts, as I would like this blog to better reflect my more positive attitudes. So there.

All the Latest Mac Browsers Are Too New for the Department of Education

It took a number of years to get my undergraduate degree in Graphic Design Technology at UND. A few more than the standard college education usually entails. Because of that, I’ve spent significantly more time dealing with the bureaucracy that goes with the college experience than most students. Don’t get me wrong, I think jumping through those hoops is a necessary and useful skill to learn for todays world. I can’t count how many times I’ve overheard conversations about how hard it is and how stupid it is and that, “we shouldn’t have to go through all of that just to…” followed by any number of subjects that you really do HAVE to go through to be a successful human being in the United States today. If you expect to benefit from the system, you have to play by the systems rules. That’s not to say we should all give up and accept every bit of sticky red tape stretched out before us, but for the most part, it’s a necessary evil. However, The Department of Education’s FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) website has one hoop that should be cut into inch long squares with a chainsaw and fired into the sun by any responsible Mac user. Herald Fail #1 – Curiosity Rover Landing Party

Since this undoubtedly won’t be the only time I post about the Grand Fork’s Herald’s habitual failure to actually read the articles they publish, I’m naming this post Herald Fail #1.

The NASA Curiosity Rover is scheduled to land on Mars early Monday. It’s the size of a car and will require a ton of luck to land safely on the surface of the Red Planet. Here in Grand Forks, we have quite well respected Aerospace and Space Studies programs at UND, with at least one NASA research contract directly related to future manned Mars exploration. Whenever there is something spacey going on, UND tends to host viewing parties. As such, UND plans to hold a NASA sanctioned event late Sunday night to view the progress of the Curiosity landing. I hate Chris Brown, even though some of the beats in some of his music are catchy, it’s no reason for him to be as famous as he is. I pretty much hate anything that uses obvious autotuning. Bravo to this writer and the editor for publishing such a succinct and honest review.

Recently, North Dakota’s State Auditors Office released a report detailing the misspending of student fees collected by NDSU and UND. Having myself paid those fees at UND for over 7 years, I wasn’t happy to hear that my dollars, or rather, the dollars I will have to pay in the future, plus interest through federal loans, have been spent in such foolish and wasteful ways.
